"For Latinos new to the United States, navigating the local school system may be overwhelming. In this small guide, Dabbah—an Argentinean who once headed a textbook distribution company in New York City and started a parent participation program in city schools—addresses basic issues such as registration, the school calendar, transportation, meal programs, grade placement, dress codes, and books. She explains bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and emphasizes that immigration status is not a factor for enrolling children.
