Full Description

Workplace violence may snatch the daily headlines, but outside the spotlight, the pain and degradation of corporate bullying shatters lives nationwide. A landmark book blazing light on one of the business world’s dirtiest secrets, The Bully at Work exposes the destructive, silent epidemic that devastates the lives, careers and families of millions.

Those being bullied at work feel more than merely overworked and underappreciated. The fear, shame, humiliation and loss of dignity that originate at work can creep into every other aspect of their lives. Bullying is about Work Trauma! At last, there is a way to stop the hurt…and stop the bully.

Gary and Ruth Namie, pioneers of the Campaign Against Workplace Bullying (www.bullybusters.org), teach you personal strategies to identify allies, build your confidence and stand up to your tormentor—or decide when to walk away with your sanity and dignity intact.

The Namies’ expertise on workplace bullying has been featured in such media outlets as CNN, PBS, NPR, USA Today and The Washington Post.

About the Authors

Excerpt

A simple truth: to stop a bully from turning you into a Target, just firmly announce that her behavior (when she decides to test your resistance) will not be accepted without her running the risk that it will be reported immediately to both a private lawyer and the company’s legal team. Gesture that she has one chance to stop now (palm of your raised hand facing her) and that she consider the consequences of continuing her childish, embarrassing behavior.

Easy to say, right? Easy to understand and dream about, too. But nearly impossible to do. If it were just that simple, you would have done it in the first place and skipped all the misery from being the bully's Target.

All the pain now felt comes not from that single missed opportunity alone, but from the postponement of taking action to right the wrong. Nipping it in the bud, people call it. But using another old saying, it's all water under the bridge, the
current situation requires you to stop the hurt now however you can.
